edition of the Glenwood Herald) I want to thank the good people of the Glenwood Church of Christ for donating a bookcase to the library. That case and a nice bookshelf donated by Mary Bandy now make our science fiction collection a little easier to reach and find. It is fitting that Mary’s bookcase be used for the sci-fi books since her son Bill donated most of them. All our science fiction fans thank you both! The “un-bake sale” fundraiser was a great success. The books on Iraq, Afghanistan, El Salvador and Mexico that were purchased are wonderful. Come by and check one out. The history of Mexico is fascinating. That people’s struggle for freedom has gone on many, many years. The company I ordered these books from sent us two bonus packs of free books. These books are also great additions to our collection. They cover topics as diverse as the Assyrians (the Biblical people of Nineveh), who lived in the land now known as Iraq, and careers in teaching and science. Another “free” book we received tells of the inventions of the Egyptians. We are still adding books to the Jean Ligon Memorial collection. Two of the latest are in the Harmony series by Philip Gulley. These books are similar in tone to the Medford books by Jan Karon. I am still paid for 24 hours per week. The library’s hours are Monday – Friday, noon (or soon thereafter) to 5:00 PM. If you are desperate for something to read there is one “overflow” bookshelf in the lobby of city hall. You may check books out from that shelf any time city hall is open, just note your card number and how many books you took on the pad on the top shelf. As I cut the “dead wood” from the collection our boxes of free books and 5 cent books fill up. Come on by and pick up some reading materials and help me clear out our crowded shelves. Lots of helpful and fun links are listed on the Glenwood Library web page. Do a Google search on “Glenwood Public Library Arkansas” and you should be able to find our page. Here is a question that was posed in a column from the past. “A steady stream of people enter Mike’s place of business and remove its treasured belongings. The people do not pay for what they take. Mike allows them to take as much as they can carry as long as they keep their mouths shut. What are the people taking and which type of business employs Mike?” How many businesses do you know that operate like Mike’s? Here’s the answer to the question: The people are taking books, magazines, educational toys, puppets, computer CD’s, music CD’s, language tapes, books on tape and CD, and videotapes. Mike works in a library! Your Glenwood library is paid for by the county and city taxes you pay. Take advantage of what is offered. Free internet access is also available. You are charged for printing (15 cents for personal items and 5 cents per page for school work). Copies are 25 cents per page. The only other charges are the late fees. Late videos will cost you $1.00 per every day they are late. The late book fee has been increased to 10 cents per day. Please be considerate of others and bring your items in when they are due. Look in your shelves and see if you have accidentally kept a Glenwood Library book in your own collection. There is an amnesty on fees right now. Bring in your late materials in the month of January and there are no late fees! Please call Beth Maxey at 356-4643 with any questions about the library. | ||
