Blowing my own horn would seem to compete against humility, but it appears that if I don't do something to get the word out, even a great program like Words,Extended (WordsEx), even priced beyond right, even free, will just sit there on the shelf.
First, I submitted just the Words,Extended executable file to one site that I knew by name, Download.com. I somewhat nervously anticipated as the three weeks went by to get it approved and listed. Then I expected to see the download count shoot up, maybe 4, 5 digits, but it's still only in the hundreds. (How many were my own?)

Here's another of my first manually submitted sites. Softpedia found Words,Extended to be "clean" and "100% free", and already with 500 downloads, seven users ranked it as "Good" (3.0/5)!

Then I finally made a PAD file, which is a "Portable Application Description", which is an XML file describing my application program in a structured way. I used a freeware application PADGen from the Association of Shareware Professionals, from http://www.asp-shareware.org/pad/ to fill in my information and create the structured XML data, and validate it.
Click here, and you can read my XML PAD file, and see what information I put in it: My PAD file for Words,Extended
The mere act of submitting my pad file to the Association of Shareware Professionals caused me to receive two e-mails within hours saying Words,Extended was now listed, from two web sites that actively monitor the ASP database. Download3k.com also made some tests that my code is clean, and emailed me this clean award link.

I took a brief thrill ride on the free trial run of an application called GSA Auto SoftSubmit, found at http://www.gsa-online.de/eng/index.html that submits your PAD file to about 5000 web locations, but only to about 100 web sites in the trial version. It was a delight to watch that multi-threaded program work, making intelligent guesses, even at interpreting the Captcha's (images you have to type in). From that profligate program I have about 30 links spread around, which I will endeavour to visit and tabulate here. Their domain names all start with a digit, which is one of the limitations of that GSA trial version.
Disappointingly, the majority of them appear to be web-link farms (who link one another to rank higher in search engines), not worth mentioning here. There only seemed to be this one that was a bona fide software download site:

Now I am on a manually guided course, having surfed with WordsEx.exe for "submit PAD files" and having a great many web sites to visit personally and make my submissions, as follows. One need for this page is that many web sites require a link back from you to them in order to list you, but a long list will also be like a merit badge for suffering many submit process. Some of these submissions may still be in progress.

An email from Free-to-try came on the heels of submitting to easyhtools, and they looked very similar. Then I was studying my "submit pad" query results, and found lemonfiles.com, and when I looked there, lo, Words,Extended is there aready too.

Words,Extended received its first award for function, rather than mere cleanliness, due to a review at Download25.com. I'm so proud that I put up both the text and graphic version of their offered link:

This site's unusual: It offers a database full of PAD files for free, to start whomsoever would like to host a freeware/shareware download web site. Getting in there would be like getting into an unknown number of as-yet-unborn software web sites.

This was pleasant: Immediately after submitting my PAD file to bestsoftware4download.com, the next page displayed had a URL to the newly created Words,Extended entry, and also, a link to another site, bestfreewaredownload.com, and my one click added Words,Extended immediately there too!

Soft14.com says that the free level of software submissions are processed in two years without a backlink, two weeks with one, surely the most extreme claim I've heard!

The following several web sites came up grouped together in Words,Extended, for all of their program submission pages are essential identical boilerplate, hence Words,Extended ranked them as quite equal, and both software2have.com and freeware2have.com redirected me to ksourcerer.org;:

Upon submit, yankeedownload.com responded right back with a new Words,Extended URL. That's the immediate gratification that I like! Why doesn't everybody automate? Why, they could apply a computer to this mundane task!
