2. Wesley, b. ca. 1810, married Jane Reynolds, and had at least twelve children. Names in the census and other records are: Priscilla, Henry, Letha, John W., Zachariah, Mary, Hester Ann, Elizabeth, Amanda, Nancy, Emily, James and Nathan. In the 1862 Tax List in Cook's Mill District, Wesley Johnson owns 97 acres of land on Archies Creek, at a value of $291, land which was deeded to him in 1850 by his father. 3. Jemimah, born January 13, 1814, married Joel Snody January 28, 1847, in Surry County. Joel was born November 5, 1811. They resided in Surry County, apparently on land near Archie's Creek that she inherited from her father. Joel passed away 14 May 1892, and Jemimah, 17 Apr 1902. Their burial place was Mt. Hermon Methodist Church. 4. James, born ca. 1818, a shoemaker, married Ann Eliza Johnson October 29, 1844, in Surry County. They had eight children: Sarah, William, Nancy, Elizabeth, Julia, Lando, James, and Eliza. James, Sr. died about 1909 and left a will in Surry County. 5. Mary, born ca. 1820, married Joseph White in 1844. They lived in the Westfield community and had the following children: John C., who married Emily R. Gray, Albert, Elizabeth M., Francis, Joseph, Mary, Melissa, Thomas, and William H. Mary Johnson White died sometime after 1880. Her husband, Joseph, died July 8, 1906 and was buried in a family cemetery. 6. Nancy, born ca. 1824, married Isaac Norman II on February 8, 1847, in Surry County. Isaac was about fourteen years older than his wife. They lived on the Surry/Stokes County line. The four children named in Isaac's will were Columbus Franklin, Tabitha Jane, Isaac William and Justine, who married a Crawford. In the tax list of 1862, Isaac owned 223 acres of land with a value of $300 in Big Creek in Surry County. Nancy's husband apparently was a minister and they died within a few months of each other, judging by the following items from The Yadkin Valley News. Published May 4, 1893, "Westfield News": "Rev. Isaac Norman, a highly respected citizen living near Mt. Harmon (sic), died on April 29." Published on Sept. 14, 1893, "Westfield N.C.": "Quite a number of our people attended the funeral sermon of Mr. & Mrs. Isaac Norman, preached by Rev. Walter Creasy at Mt. Herman (sic) on the 6th inst. They reported a very fine sermon." (inst. means the current month) 7. Elizabeth, born June 2, 1825, married John McMillion on June 25, 1860. He was born January 19, 1929. They farmed just across the border from Elizabeth's family, in Patrick County, Virginia. John passed away September 2, 1902, and Elizabeth, March 11, 1915. They were buried in the Abijah McMillon family cemetery in Patrick County. Their children were John Wesley, Christopher Columbus, and William F. 8. John Wright was born ca. 1827. He was the only child of Wright Johnson who did not inherit land from his father, perhaps because he had moved away to another area. His name does not appear in the census where the rest of the family lived. |
