Medical Mission Trips to Cite Soleil
--Divider--

Life expectancy in Haiti 45 years. Life expectancy, quality, and the capacity to work for their own betterment is improved through the vitamins, prescriptions, medical treatments, and immunizations provided during the medical team visits. Consider being part of one of these teams. Rosters are developed approximately 6 months prior to the visits in order to support planning and procurement of materials. Both medical personnel and lay persons are needed for these trips. There is still room in the schedule for another medical mission if you hear the call! A team with some background in preventative medicine would be a blessing!

Week long clinics run by visiting U.S. teams provide a significant amount of the medical care available to the residents of Cite Soleil. Teams comprised of general practitioners, pediatricians, medical technicians, nurses, specialists and lay persons see hundreds of patients and fill thousands of prescriptions during their week-long visits. Five medical teams are planned for 2002. The goal remains 12 medical clinic trips at Cite Soleil each eyar, along with visits to Source Matelas and, in the future, Blanchard.

Medical teams are typically comprised of several nurses and paramedics to perform triage and screen patients for a particular doctor. Physicians include ob/gyn, emergency room, pediatric, and others, as well as dentists. Non-medical persons perform valuable service assisting in the pharmacy and other support areas. Used eyeglasses are fitted to patients who otherwise would have no opportunity for vision correction.

*
If you are unable to make a team trip, but wish to help in the effort, there is always a need for persons to underwrite the costs of medical supplies and the cargo charges for getting the suppliers to Haiti (the amounts usually well exceed the amount of personal luggage/cargo which a traveler can check through on an airplane.
