Local Bike Clubs, Groups, Teams, Shops

  • Potomac Pedalers Touring Club is a non-profit educational, recreational and social organization for bicycling enthusiasts, and one of the largest bicycle clubs in the United States.
  • Atlantic Cycling hosts a great series of metric centuries near the DC metro area. The folks are laid back and the rides are well supported; their checkpoints offer the best banana bread you'll ever get on a bike ride.
  • Artemis is a road-biking and racing club, dedicated to promoting women in competitive cycling. They race, train, teach, and work hard to get riders to reach full potential while embracing the diversity of their members. Occasionally they train and compete at the Lehigh Valley Velodrome in Trexlertown PA.
  • DC Velo is a well-respected mid-Atlantic racing club. They host local training rides year round, including weekend rides in Rock Creek Park, plus midweek hill training and interval sessions.
  • DC Randonneurs, founded in 2004, sponsors randonneur (endurance bicycling) events and a Randonneur Brevet Series, in the Washington, D.C. area. DC Randonneurs is an affiliated club of Randonneurs USA (RUSA) and the League of American Bicyclists (LAB).
  • Washington Area Bicyclist Association is an advocacy group, supporting bike commuting and creating new and better places to ride in the DC metro region.
  • Bike Washington DC is a guide to the location and condition of all multi-use trails in the local area. They host two email lists for Bike Washington DC and C&O Towpath enthusiasts.
  • Proteus Bicycles in College Park MD offers new and used equipment, foolproof maintenance and fittings, history lessons, "bike therapy," and happy hours. There's no other shop quite like it.
  • The Bicycle Place in Silver Spring MD sells high-end bikes and all the usual services in a unique spot near Rock Creek Park. They host a regular Sunday ride followed by coffee at the Red Dog Cafe.
  • MidAtlantic Bicycle Racing Association (MABRA) is the organization that sets the rules for all local bike racing. They issue race permits and keep the most current schedule of local criteriums, road races, and time trials.
  • Ultra-Marathon Cycling Association (UMCA) promotes long-distance bicycling from century rides to the Race Across AMerica (RAAM). The UMCA is open to all cyclists interested in endurance riding.
  • Suburban Cyclists Unlimited, based in Horsham PA, keeps one of the best events lists around.
