Responsibilities are for Grown-Ups
Bryan leaves for Seattle on Thursday, and then I leave for Seattle/Minnesota late Friday night. We have about a
hundred things that need to get done before we leave - laundry, grocery shopping, cleaning.
We were supposed to do a long list of those things on Sunday, but when I woke up Sunday morning, I really didn't feel
like doing any of them. I suggested that we go to Disneyland, as that was a virtual guarantee of more fun than grocery
shopping at the commissary and doing laundry.
Bryan resisted. He suggested we do the responsible thing and take care of our errands.
I pouted until he gave in.
I think what really happened was that when I sprung the Disneyland suggestion on him, he wasn't quite awake yet, and
once he had a chance to wake up and seriously consider it, (the time it took me to pout) he decided it was a much more appealing
idea.
I recently read a statistic that said that Disneyland can accommodate up to 65,000 visitors a day. I think there
may have been more than that there on Sunday. The first order of business was a fast pass for Space Mountain (at 10:30
am it was spitting out passes for 4:10-5:10 pm), then we hit Astro Blasters and the Haunted Mansion (Pirates of the Caribbean
is closed until June while they add in some new stuff) and then headed over to California Adventure to get away from the crowds.
Imagine my shock when we found crowds in California Adventure!
Usually that park is virtually deserted. I think the longest we've ever had to wait for rides was about 15 minutes.
We ended up grabbing a fast pass for Tower of Terror and then wandering off to kill about an hour until our pass would work.
We headed off to go through the tortilla factory and get a fresh tortilla (so, so good!) and wandered around the Paradise
Pier area. After Tower of Terror, we grabbed a fast pass for California Screamin' (wait time: 75 minutes) and
then went back over to Disneyland.
We did manage to hit our major favorites, but the parks were much more crowded than we expected. It must be the
weekend before spring break for kids or something
We finished out the day with beignets from Ralph Brennan's in Downtown Disney, along with a Muppet t-shirt for me, and
some new Legos from the Lego Store for Bryan.
The annual pass is a pretty good deal. Although Bryan and I argue how many visits to the park we'll have to make
to get our money's worth (he says 5, I say 7, so I guess we'll have to compromise on 6), you do get free parking, a 15% discount
at the restaurants on site and 10% off merchandise and dining in Downtown Disney.
So that's two trips since we got our passes...

More Excuses
So I have even more excuses for not posting lately, but none of them are very good. My friend Stacey was visiting
from Bellingham last weekend. She had a conference in town, and stayed over the weekend to hang out. Unfortunately
for her, we had the worst weather we've had all winter. It actually snowed out in east county! San Diego is a
great place to live when the weather's good, but rain really limits your activity choices.
We ended up going to the Wild Animal Park and braving the hail and cold winds. We got to see the lion cub whose companion is a mastiff puppy, and we did the Railway
tour. Apparently it was a good day for it, as the tour guide explained the animals were doing all sorts of unusual things
in response to the rain. Needless to say, we about froze to death, and the rest of the weekend's fun took place indoors.
Work has also been very busy lately, and Bryan has been underway a lot. I generally don't mind - I like the time to myself
- but it seems like we've hardly seen each other lately. Next week, he's off to some hazardous materials school in Alameda.
I think he's home the week after that, and then we leave for Adam and Sarah's wedding in Seattle. He'll fly home from that,
and I'll fly straight to Minnesota for the convention. In between Wild games, convention classes and hearing aid company
parties, I'll have my sister-in-law Crystal's bridal shower and bachelorette party, and spend some time (hopefully) with Bryan's
family. All in all, it's going to be a busy few weeks.
Unfortunately, I don't get to do any international travel, like some folks I could mention!

Damned Earthlink.
Apologies for not posting recently. I did a big recap of our hockey adventures in L.A. at the beginning of the
month, but instead of it being posted to my site, apparently it was beamed off to the Bermuda Triangle. I was so vexed
by the fact that 45 minutes of work simply disappeared that I just decided to wait and see if it reappeared, as it did in the past.
No luck.
So, without further ado, our hockey adventures...

Dissed by Boogaard
My husband, my hero, got me hockey tickets for Valentine's day for the March 2nd game of the Wild at the Kings in L.A.
Not very romantic, you say? Clearly you don't live in our household!
I took the afternoon off from work and we headed up to L.A. early to beat the rush hour traffic. I had very high hopes
for this trip, because last time we were there, it proved to be the only venue where you could be in contact with the players
after the game, and I was hoping to score an autograph for my Boogaard jersey.
We got there in time for warm ups, and our seats happened to be right near the tunnel where the players come out. Once
again, the Good Hockey Seat Fairy smiled down upon us and placed us behind the visitor's bench. Warm ups are an interesting
thing for me to watch, mostly from a personal standpoint. Kyle Wanvig went up several points in my estimation by flipping
a puck over the glass to a little boy watching the players. Having seen several games now, you could start to see which players
have a routine, and which just go with the flow.
One of the cool things about being near the tunnel is that when the players come off the ice from warm ups, you can hang
your fist over the railing and most of the players will bump fists with you. Bryan managed to score bumps from Gaborik and
Foster. I had mine out there for Boogaard, but he hit every single other person's fist that was out, except mine. Dissed
by Boogaard! Bryan tried to console me by pointing out that everyone else was a kid, but the excuse didn't fly.
The game itself was a disappointing loss, and there weren't even any good fights! After the game, we headed to the area
where the team bus waits, only to find...a satellite truck. We met up with the girls that we saw at the Phoenix game (and
the LA game in October) and Stephane Veilleux's cousin, Michelle. We were chatting with them, and it turns out Michelle is
dating Derek Boogaard!
Gah!
Michelle couldn't have been nicer. She offered to get my jersey autographed and get it back to me, but I really wanted
to get it done in person. The other girls asked if we were going to the Anaheim game the next night, and even though we hadn't
been planning on it, we decided to give it some thought. The team bus rolled past us, and off drove my hopes for an autograph.
We didn't get home until about 1 am, and although Bryan had Friday off, I had to be at work bright and early.
Friday morning, after a whopping four hours of sleep, I began hunting for Anaheim tickets. Thank you Good Hockey Seat Fairy,
because this time we scored seats right next to the visitor's bench. I rapidly did some math, calculating whether we'd be able to make it up there in time for the game after I got
off of work, and we decided to give it a try anyway. The Anaheim game had an equally disappointing outcome unfortunately.
We did see Michelle and the girls again, and she asked for my address, so she could send me Boogaard stuff. So we'll see what
happens with that. We made the not-quite-as-long drive home (only an hour and fifteen minutes, as compared with a two hour
drive home after the LA game) and headed off to sleep with the luxury of being able to sleep in Saturday morning.
So, the recap: One extra hockey game (Anaheim) squeezed into our attendance record, two (pathetic) losses, I didn't get
to meet Derek Boogaard, but I got to meet his girlfriend, and my jersey remains unsigned.
I'm off to Minnesota the first week in April (supposedly for the American Academy of Audiology Convention, but the fact
that there were two Wild home games played no small
part in my decision to go) and will be catching games with Crystal, my sister in law, and Mike, one of Bryan's friends. One
last chance to get the jersey signed, and one more arena to add to the NHL Arena Tour list. Just in case you
were wondering, Kurtis Foster has the biggest stick (and I don't mean it that way, you perv!)
