Gigglens

Custom Clay Creations

Gigglens were "born" in early 2007 while I was searching for ideas for my daughter's upcoming baby shower.  I decided to sculpt some caricature babies out of fondant, a thick sugary confection.  I really enjoyed working with the fondant, but it was just too delicate once it dried to be able to ship it or transport it any distance.  A friend suggested clay, and I eventually started making custom clay figurines as gifts for my friends and family.

The story behind the Gigglens name:  I wanted to call my sculptures "Gwennies" after the new love of my life, my granddaughter, Gwendolyn.  After all, the baby shower in Gwennie's honor was the reason I started sculpting.  There is a little 3-year-old boy named Ryan who visits Gwendolyn quite often and he can't say "Gwendolyn."  He calls her "Baby Gigglen."    The name fit perfectly, since my little figurines have funny cartoonlike characteristics and they make me laugh as I sculpt them.  It seems like whenever I look at them, they bring a smile to my face.

I can make Gigglens from pictures, or tell me your favorite memory or something unique that your favorite pet or child does, and I will turn that into a Gigglen.  I can also make Gigglens to celebrate any holiday or occasion, or to portray any kind of profession.  So far I have been specializing in Mastiffs and babies, but I'm willing to try anything.
