Rules of conduct for investigations...

Below ar the rules that we ask be observed during investigations.  As "professionals" in this field, we need to treat our investigations as such.  Failure to follow these rules can risk the outcome of our investigative results, as well as reflect on the team as a whole.  If you feel any rules have been omitted and think would benefit the team - please e-mail your suggestions to me.

Be aware, that at any time - if W-I-P-S team leaders feel that you are not complying to these rules, it could result in removal from future investigations and meetings.

  1. Investigations will be carried out in TEAMS (no one will investigate alone).  This is not only for safety reasons, but to have a second opinion of any "evidence" that might occur on an investigation.
  2. All sites that we investigate as a team, we will have obtained permission to be on.  Please do not use our team name to gain your own access to locations without clearing it through team leaders first!  Do not trespass in locations specifically marked with signage stating so, unless previously cleared with team leaders.
  3. A picture I.D. must be carried at all times (driver's license, state I.D., etc. unless with parent or guardian).
  4. Before departing on an investigation, check all equipment functions.  Be sure batteries are charged to full capacity.  A re-check must be done upon arriving at investigation location.  Be sure to have brand new video and audio tapes.  Bring extras!
  5. No smoking, drugs or alcohol on investigations! (Also, please abstain from drugs or alcohol before any investigations!)
  6. No horseplay on investigations please! We are trying to maintain a professional image.
  7. When using film cameras - start the investigation with a clean roll of film.
  8. Clean all camera lenses prior to starting equipment on an investigation (video and still).
  9. Please arrive early to the investigation (at least a half hour) to allow us unobstructed time to walk through and learn our location.
  10. When working with EVP, take careful note of questions being asked and noises heard physically - this is important when working with evidence after our investigation is through.
  11. If speaking directly to spirits, please do not use hostile language as to provoke spirit activity.
  12. Try to keep light sources behind you when taking pictures that could potentially cause lens flare and mistaken anomalies.
  13. Keep fingers, camera straps, hair and other objects away from the lens of the camera.
  14. Try to debunk any activity before assuming paranormal sources - find rational explanations.  Only after you have dismissed these other possibilities, can we mark it down as evidence!
  15. Ouija boards will be confiscated if found on any investigations.
  16. If investigating on a cold night, please hold your breath when taking snapshots - exhaled breath can be mistaken as spirit presence (mists, fog, etc.).
  17. Tie back long hair.
  18. If at an outdoor location, be aware of adverse weather conditions.  Rain, snow, fog, mist, wind and other weather conditions can result in false paranormal pictures and readings.
  19. When possible, please use film in conjunction to digital cameras (to compare results with negatives).
  20. Stand still when taking pictures, movement can result in dust movement in the air which can be confused as orb activity.
  21. Show respect at all locations (be it a home, cemetery, place of business, etc.).
  22. Negative emotions will draw negative energy - bear this in mind when going on investigations! Also, if you have forms of protection that you like to use, please feel free to use them (but clear them with team leaders first if it could disrupt the investigation in any way).
  23. Keep an open mind (but maintain an amount of skepticism!).
  24. Please RSVP for only meetings and investigations that you are sure you can make it to.  If you need to cancel for an investigation, provide as much notice as possible (48 hours at least if possible).  If you do not arrive to an investigation that you have RSVP’d to, it is ground for termination from future investigations.
  25. Make sure all cell phones are SILENT and keys (or other noisemaking objects) are secured as to not disrupt any evidence on the investigation.
