With many years of experience I am qualified to be a Biblio-therapist. I also am very modern and can use
movies. Both can bring better over all well being. We all know how to breath, correct? But Yoga teaches us how to breath better
and more effectively. Everyone can think; however, most people do not think well nor know how to do deep thinking. Like Breathing
there are techniques so you can enhance your deeper understanding of life and be able to think- really think not just be a
parrot. I am here. Let me add a new dimension to your life.
MOVIES WORTH SEEING & OWNING
My Name is Khan
This is a fantastic movie. Every American should watch this movie as many times as it takes to get the message. Learn
and think and realize that the world does not belong to the US but to all living beings.
it is on Netflix
Das Boot Directors Cut.
World War Two movie from the German side. That was the last true war that had any morality on either side. The USA has not
fought a real moral war since.
find it on Netflix
High Plains Drifter
Shakespearian in Scope. A good movie to see figurative language and ideas in action.
also netflix
Gallant Hours
World War Two Pacific. James Cagney at his best. The Music haunting and the story of true Americans- nowhere to be found today.
I had to buy it a few years ago but I do believe netflix has it.
Books
The Awakening Land by Conrad Richter
This Pulitzer prize winning novel (the Town) of 1951 came as a delightful surprise. I loved the Awakening land mini series
in 1978 with Elizabeth Montgomery (an completely under rated actress!) I have thought about that movie often. When I saw it
for sale on DVD I bought it with out a second thought. Played it when it arrived and was delighted that is was as good as
I remembered! )That is in itself a great feeling) When I saw it was based on the novel and had to read the novel. I have been
making it a habit to read the novels that favorite movies are based upon. This is a great hobby and opens up 2 venues of entertainment.
I found the novel as the trilogy The Awakening Land- consisting of The Trees, The Fields, The Town. All these novels were
written in the 1940s with The Town debuting in 1951. I found a 1966 hardback copy on Amazon and snapped it up too. The novel
is compelling, intense, historic and will become one I read yearly like several other novels I have and love.
BOOKS TO READ AND REREAD
War and Peace
Tolstoy's epic is still relevant today -even more so. Yes it is 1300 pages long; however, the philosophy is as fresh and needful
even more than in the 19th century. Why do we slaughter our fellow human beings in the name of God and religion?
The Complete Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Douglas Adams' humor is so relevant for all times. There is nothing dated about this book- it keeps getting better with each
read.
The Complete Harry Potter series
It is a life's journey that shows we all need to be brave in the face of danger, be ready to sacrifice, learn, and love. We
need to have faith not in any deity but in ourselves. Love is the only thing missing in our world now.
MORE MUSIC
If you have not listened to Leonard Cohen since you were a teenager, well it is time to revisit him. Everything you heard
as that undone human being called youth will come back as a revelation. We all must grow as we age and if your ideas, ideals,
and taste have not refined or even made a 180 change then you were not successful in your growth. I have just recieved my
"Essential Leonard Cohen" 3 disk CD set and I am ready for this music now. I have the CD "Best of Leonard Cohen"
and I now see why he is still successfully touring at 75! He is better than Bob Dylan, he is better than the Beatles, he is
better than the Stones....And dare I say it?... he is right up there with Pink Floyd.
Movies
The Awakening Land
Based on the book reviewed to the left. A very good start before the novel. A Very good production from the 1970s a time of
first class TV and not the drivel dished out today. I do not watch broadcast TV only DVDs.
