These are concerts from Prince that I know of from the Lovesexy tour of
1988-1989. The tour was, according to many opinions, one of his most
interesting and original tours to date. On some occasions, he played aftershows
at small clubs in which he'd play material that, to this date, remains
unreleased, and those shows contained some of his funkiest and rawest material.
The Lovesexy tour included different elements every night, and thus, one could
expect something different every night.
Prince varied the order of the songs he played on the tour nearly every night.
Here is a typical set list of a Lovesexy tour show:
Erotic City, Housequake/Take the A Train, Slow Love, Medley:
Adore/Delirious/Jack u Off/12/Sister/Adore, Do me Baby (this was added to the
above medley on some occasions, I Wanna Be Your Lover (sometimes U Got the Look
was played instead of I wanna be your lover), Head, A Love Bizarre (vocals by
Prince), When u Were Mine, Blues in C (If I Had A Harem), When u Were Mine,
Little Red Corvette, Controversy, U Got the Look, Dirty Mind,
Superfunkycalifragisexy/Bob George, Anna Stesia, Cross the Line (spoken poem
recorded on DAT by Ingrid Chavez), Eye Know, Lovesexy, Glam Slam, The Cross,
Eye Wish U Heaven, Take This Beat, God is Alive, Kiss, Dance on/Drum Solo by
Sheila E./Transmississippi Rap by Sheila E., When 2 R in Love, Piano medley:
This was played at about 80% of these
shows and included snippets and phrases from the following songs on a regular
basis: venus de milo, starfish and coffee, raspberry beret, condition of the
heart, do me baby, strange relationship
Sometimes the medley included What I'd Say (Ray Charles song), Ballad of
Dorothy Parker, It's no Secret What God Can Do, the Ladder, How Come u Don't Call
me Anymore
When 2 R In Love (cont'd), Let's Go Crazy, When Doves Cry,
Purple Rain, 1999, Alphabet St.
Since the set list varied from night to night, songs like Pop Life, the 80s
medley, girls and boys and Positivity, to name a few, were played occasionally
on the tour. In addition, quite a few familiar faces and related artists
guested on stage during some of these appearances, including Candy Dulfer,
Mavis Staples, Wendy and Lisa and George Clinton.
