I graduated from Arlington (WA) High School in 1978. I attended Washington
State University until 1983, when I received my Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics and commission as an
Ensign, US Navy. In 1995, I attended National University (San Diego CA) receiving a Master's Degree in Business
Administration (Executive Computer Management emphasis).
Leaving Active Duty in 1995, I became a member of the Department of Defense sponsored
"Troops to Teachers" program. I attended a "proficiency-based" teacher training program at Western Oregon University in
1997 to complete certification requirements for my Washington and Oregon Teaching Credentials. My student teaching experience
was at Lebanon High School (Oregon) where I taught both Algebra 1/2 and Algebra 3/4 while working with
study skills students on their "Oregon Trail" history project.
I have been a Mathematics Teacher for eight years. The past four
years, I have been teaching Algebra 1/2, Algebra 3/4, and Geometry 1/2 at Southridge High School. Previous high
schools include McLoughlin High School in Milton-Freewater, Oregon and Kentwood High School in Covington, Washington
(near Kent). I also taught College Algebra for the University of Maryland University College Program
at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait assisting military members to continue their work on 2- and 4-year programs.
When I am not teaching, I assist in some of the Athletic Activities at Southridge High School. I
announce line-ups and judge lines for Girl's Volleyball games. I keep the official scorebook for the Girl's
Basketball team. I operate the scoreboard for the 9th Grade and JV Football. Lastly, I announce and run
the scoreboard for the Boy's Varsity Baseball games. I also enjoy bicycling around the Tri-Cities.
Prior to becoming a teacher, I spent 12 years on Active Duty with the US Navy, serving on Minesweepers,
Destroyers, and Amphibious ships. My travels include three deployments to the Western Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean and
the Persian Gulf. As a Navy Reservist, I spent 18 months in Kuwait
in support of "Iraqi Freedom" and "Enduring Freedom." I recently retired from the Active Reserves after a combined service
of over 26 years.
