Class Expectations

Important Things to make this class easier.

PURPOSE OF THIS CLASS:

1.     To build on your previous Math Knowledge and Skills

2.     To help you meet all local and state requirements for graduation from Southridge High School.

3.     To prepare you for more advanced Math Curriculum and attendance at any 2- or 4-year college/university.

 

ELECTRONICS POLICY:

All Cell Phones and Music Devices will remain in your locker or backpack for the duration of class. Any cell phone or music device that is visible or interrupts class will be collected and sent to the main office for safe keeping. First infraction of this policy allows you to claim your device at the end of the school day. Repeated violations of this policy will require your parents to claim the device for you and could subject you to further disciplinary actions.

CHEATING

  1. DEFINITION: Turning in any work as your own that is not completed by you and only you. This includes (but not limited to):
    1. Copying assignments from a friend’s or neighbor’s assignment.
    2. Copying work and answers from a neighbor during quizzes or tests.
    3. Copying material from the web or other media for reports or projects you will be graded on (this is also called plagiarism).
    4. Allowing others to copy your work on assignments, quizzes, and tests
  2. First infraction: assignment, quiz or test will be given a zero (no retakes will be given). Parents will be contacted and a discipline referral will be submitted to the vice principal.
  3. Second Infraction: Automatic “Fail” for grade from class. Parents will be contacted and a discipline referral will be submitted to the vice principal.

REQUIRED MATERIALS FOR CLASS

1.     Notebook Paper for assignments.

2.     Pencils for completing assignments. (pens can be used for taking notes)

3.     Composition Book for note taking.

4.     Scientific Calculator. Graphing Calculator is optional

EXPECTATIONS:

1.     BE RESPECTFUL OF MYSELF AND YOUR FELLOW STUDENTS. WHEN I TALK, YOU NEED TO BE QUIET! WHEN I WRITE ON THE WHITEBOARD, YOU WRITE IN YOUR COMPOSITION BOOK!

2.     All required materials for this course must be with you each class meeting.

3.     A TEXTBOOK is required for ALL class sessions. Borrowing textbooks from the teacher or classmates is not considered bringing your textbook.

4.     A 3-ring binder or “Pee-Chee” folder can be utilized to organize your assignments (not stuffed into your textbook).

5.     Prepare for each class day. Read ahead in the textbook and familiarize yourself with the material.

6.     Be ready to work! That means be in your seat when the bell rings and started on the “entry task”! Tardies and unexcused absences will cost you!!

7.     Do not line-up at the door or pack up early. Remain seated with all materials on your desk until I dismiss you.

ATTENDANCE POLICY:

1.     Excused Absences:

a.     Quizzes and tests missed must be made up upon return to classes (before or after school only). Assignments are due in the next class meeting after return.

b.    If assignments, quizzes, and tests are not made up, they will be scored as a “0" in the grade book.

c.     NOTE: Current school policy is that any non-school related absences in excess of 12 days may lead to denial of credit for work completed during this course. If you see a situation coming up that may require you to be absent more than 12 times over the semester, please advise me as soon as possible.

2.     Tardiness: 0-10 minutes after bell rings.

a.     1st Tardy - Verbal Warning.

b.    2nd Tardy - Assigned a lunch detention.

c.     3rd and 4th Tardy - Assigned a detention or campus cleanup and parents will be notified.

d.    5 or more Tardies - Referred to Administration for Attendance Contract, and parents will notified.

3.     Unexcused Absences: (this includes Tardies in excess of 10 minutes)

a.     All Assignments, quizzes, and tests will receive a “0” as a score.

b.    Other sanctions could be imposed according to school policies. This may include not receiving credit for this class.
