How Your Grade Will Be Determined

ASSIGNMENTS (15% OF SEMESTER GRADE)

1.     A chapter assignment list will be provided on my website.

2.     There will be certain assignment problems that must be completed and turned in prior to the end of class. Other problems on the assignment sheet will be to prepare for quizzes and tests.

3.     Daily assignments will be scored using the following Rubric:

a.     5 Points: Assignment is at least 90% correct.

b.    3 Points: Assignment is 75-89% correct.

c.     1 Point: Assignment is 50-74% correct.

d.    No Points: Assignment less than 50% correct or is not turned in.

4.     If you are absent (excused) on the day an assignment is collected, you must turn-in that assignment upon return to class. Assignments missed should be completed and turned in as soon as possible.

SECTION QUIZZES (25% OF SEMESTER GRADE)

1.     Given at the completion of 2 or 3 Chapter Sections. Quizzes are designed to check your knowledge of material covered as well as be a study aid for the Chapter Test. Some of the quiz material will come directly from assignment problems.

2.     If you do poorly on a quiz, you can improve the quiz score by doing well on that section of the chapter test. There will be no quiz retakes.

3.     If you are absent (excused) on the day a section quiz is given, your grade for that section on the chapter test will become your quiz grade. There will be no quiz retakes

4.     Exceptions to this policy will be handled on a case by case basis depending on the circumstances of the absence.

CHAPTER TESTS (30% OF SEMESTER GRADE)

1.     Each test will be from 60 to 100 points possible. You grade for a test is found by dividing the points received on a test by the total of points available on the test.

2.     You can retake the test to improve your score.

a.     Retake Tests can be completed before or after school, unless other arrangements have been made.

b.    Test must be taken before the next scheduled chapter test

3.     If you are absent (excused) on the day a test is given, you can make up the test when retake tests are offered. This will be your only opportunity to take this chapter test.

4.     Exceptions to this policy will be handled on a case by case basis depending on the circumstances of the absence.

MIDTERM AND FINAL EXAMS (30% OF SEMESTER GRADE)

1.     Given at the completion of Quarter 1 and Quarter 2. Part of the exam grade may be based on project work due prior to end of each quarter.

2.     Midterm exam will cover all material covered during the 1st Quarter.

3.     Final Exam will be based mostly on material from the 2nd Quarter, but can include some material from Quarter 1.

4.     If you are absent (excused) on the day the Midterm or the Final Exam is given, you must make that exam up within 3 days of return to classes. An “Incomplete” will be given until the test is taken.

5.     Exceptions to this policy will be handled on a case by case basis depending on the circumstances of the absence.
