America is sooo depressed. An administration wracked by scandal, a stock market that's stalled, a nation reeling from three disastrous hurricanes, and now mourning the 2000th death in a war on which the country still hasn't reached an understanding - it really adds up to a society dwelling in a state of maximal pessimism. She may not have an economy in a technical state of Depression, but America is depressed in spirit.

They get the whole century, apparently. Another big Boomer gen link, this time a write-up at American Heritage magazine. Good stuff, including lists of cultural markers like cars driven and famous movies at the end. Check it out.

The redefining generation. A new public TV series on the Boomer generation in elderhood is announced - I think they're saying it actually starts in January. As is typical for this generation, they are portrayed as blazing new trails in the realm of "life after 50" and making this life phase fulfilling and spiritual.
