The gravel-voiced, softspoken father of the Raccoon Family is it's one most misnomered member, as he is actually seldom 'gruff' at all. His name is mostly derived from the impression one initally gets from the timbre of his voice, which a family friend once described as sounding like "a pride of iron tigers all growling in unison". No one who knows Gruff would ever mistake the sound of his voice for meanness, though. :)
He's a thoroughly and utterly devoted father and family man. One of the standing jokes told at work about him is, "There's only three topics of conversation you can get out of Gruff... his family, his family and his family, in that order." Gruff does not mind. He loves his wife and kids and will do anything to protect them. Indeed, the only time you will ever see Gruff actually acting gruff is when someone or something threatens his family. To tell the real truth, you probably won't see him merely gruff, but enraged. He is very dangerous in this state of mind... (to whatever, or whoever is threatening them, that is.)
What he can do is what makes him so dangerous to those who make themselves an enemy to him. He is extremely strong. His actual ability has never been accurately measured but he has on several occasions easily lifted several tons of material and handled it as though it weighed only a few pounds. In an incident involving some rather inept alien beings, he tore through the hull of their spacecraft as if it were cloth. As an addition to his physical strength, his body is extremely resistant to damage. Though he is not genuinely invulnerable, there are few things on Earth that can hurt him. A nuclear blast of several megatons would injure him, and in the aforementioned alien incident, where the damaged spacecraft would have been pulled into the sun, he would not have survived. But everything less than these extremes poses little threat to him.
Special note:
An advance apology is in order to all who read this information, for there is at the moment a story being developed by me that will go much deeper into the origins and history of the Raccoon Family than that which has been so far revealed. The personality profiles that you will find here at the present time are therefore (though accurate and true as far as what is presented) slightly incomplete. This is done not to mislead the reader, but to maintain a measure of suspense for the stories to come. Your patience and understanding are appreciated. <:)
