Since retiring, I've been able to devote more time to becoming the gardener that I always wanted
to be. Below are some pictures of my first year's progress.
Old tractor tires make great raised beds for planting
New leaf lettuce plants, planted in a barrel, just starting to poke through.
|
Baby sunflowers and tiny summer squash starting to poke through the soil

Tomato plants right after planting in the dog kennel.

Tomato beds...surrounded by a dog kennel to protect if from the ponies and a stray
accorn squash plant

Yellow squash and sun flowers

The photos at the left were take on July 1. The plants in containers ...tomatoes...aren't
doing as well as the plants in the dog kennel.
I will probably use the containers for herbs next year instead of tomatoes.
|
Nevertheless, it was a successful harvest. Now that I am retired I decided it was time
to start learning how to can. For this year I stuck with the tomatoes...as I was told they are a 'no brainer'....just my speed.
Next year we hope to be much more productive.
