At age 9, Gary began playing the drums his brother had stored in the basement. His best friend was
taking clarinet lessons, and the two did their imitations of Benny Goodman and Gene Krupa. After a family move, Gary
completed high school in Bradenton, Florida and joined his first band immediately after graduating in 1960.
After working in another band with guitarist Dickie Betts (who went to great success with the Allman
Brothers), Gary went on the road in the Midwest, and eventually landed in Southern California.
Gary played full time for over 20 years, backing many name artists and appearing in Las Vegas, Reno, Lake
Tahoe and other parts of the USA. He played on a movie soundtrack LP that charted in 1967 and recorded a commercial in New
York in 1968.
In 1982, Gary left the club scene to play private parties, performing a wide variety of music
all over the greater Los Angeles / Orange County area.
