The Mystery of the Anasazi at Frijoles Canyon
A children's book written by Suzanne Kita.
Photographs and drawings by Glenn K.M. Chang

Frijoles Canyon, the location of world-renowned Bandelier National Monument, is in northern New Mexico. A thousand years ago, this canyon was settled by a people we now refer to as Anasazi or Ancestral Puebloans. Then, shortly before the Spanish came to the area, they disappered.

We follow a family on a tour of Bandelier, led by a National Park guide. As the guide points out flora and fauna, discusses ancient customs and implements, and asks questions, we are drawn into the mystery of these ancient people. Author Suzanne Kita maintains just the right combination of revelation and suspense, and photographs and drawings of Glenn K.M. Chang help us visualize the life of the ancient dwellers and bring the wonders of Bandelier to life.

Written in a style appropriate for fourth through sixth graders, the book is also an excellent introduction to Bandelier and to the history of the Ancestral Puebloans.
