Cruising with Blue Moon & her crew in 2002
Mid-July we made our way into the town of Whitehall, New York. This is the the location of the final lock on the Champlain Canal, and the beginning of the waterway to Lake Champlain. Whitehall is the birthplace of the U.S. Navy. Many of the ships used in the War of 1812 were built here. We stayed at Lock 12 Marina, (which has a great restaurant, Finch and Chubb) for several days before heading north.
We went seven miles up Otter Creek off Lake Champlain to the village of Vergennes, Vermont. The town docks (with electricity and water) are located just down stream of beautiful waterfalls and the town is a short walk (up a long hill!) from the docks. The town is lovely.
