Cruising with Blue Moon & her crew in 2002
The beginning of May finds us approaching the Sunset Beach Pontoon Bridge (right) north of Myrtle Beach, SC. This bridge opens only on the hour and only if there is water under it! We try to time our arrival just before the hour and at least a couple of hours after low tide.
Somewhere along the way north, we decided to bite the bullet and have stabilizers ins talled on the boat, even though it would shorten our cruise because of time on the hard. We made arrangements with Chris Washburn, and spent two weeks in their boatyard in Solomons, MD, while the work was done. Those guys are amazing-they do great work. Oh boy, what a difference the stabilizers make. Why didn't we get them sooner?
We passed the Statue of Liberty on June 30th. She was a welcoming sight as we cruised through New York Harbor heading up the Hudson River to Lake Champlain.
