This is more of an suburban hike. The views are dominated by the towns of Kapa'a and Lihue and the neighborhoods surrounding them. Not only do you get a real feel for this most populated corner of the island, but it gives you a healthy appreciation for just how wild and unspoiled the rest of Kauai is. But still, there are huge, sweeping views from this hike that are worth the effort.

There are only a couple of photos, including a stitched-together panorama from the top which will take a bit of time to load.

We saw about a dozen people on the hike.

The mileage was accurate and the trail well-described. I would amend the authors' admonition regarding the hike up to the very top – to the giant's forehead or nose or chin, or whatever it is. For any moderately experienced hiker, this trail seemed far less perilous than described. Only the short trail to the left, just before the last climb, is one to avoid if you are at all vertiginous. I didn't go out there, but Bill and Elle did. They described a short stretch that was very narrow, with a long drop to the valley on the south side.

Elle braves the giant's nose, or chin, or . . . whatever it is.
