This site
serves two purposes: first, it's a way for family and friends to
see photos and read descriptions of the various hikes we've taken
on Kauai; second, it's a way for those interested in hiking Kauai
to see and read about our experiences. In particular, this site
refers to, and adds comment on, The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook,
which – at the risk of sounding like a shill – is far
and away the best guidebook published on Kauai.
Kauai is perhaps
the most hike-able of the Hawaiian Islands. Not only does it have
many reasonably well maintained trails serving some of the most
spectacular and varied scenery on the planet, there is little problem
with private land or hostile locals.
And for those
who want something more than a few miles hiked or a nice view, Kauai
has a number of more extreme hikes, not only in distance, but in
challenge. Our goal is to hike as many of those as possible and
report on them here, including providing GPS-produced maps and stats.
