Chip Washington Gary Lineberry
My name is Gary Lineberry and on May 1, 2000 I retired from the Los Angeles County Fire Department after serving 26 years as a Helicopter Pilot.
Here at my site you will find some interesting information about the Department's aviation program as well as links to some of my favorite places.
In the fall of 1998 we performed an evaluation of the Sikorsky UH-60L FIREHAWK helicopter. This one-of-a-kind variant of the Sikorsky BlackHawk was put through its paces here in the Los Angeles County area and data was collected to help determine the value of this type of aircraft in their aviation program.
I was fortunate enough to have participated in that evaluation and would like to personally thank Sikorsky Project Pilots Chip Washington, Mike Skaggs, Ed Disnmore and Nick Micskey; Crew Chief Rich Rogers; and Maintenance Technicians Phil Koziol, Noel Bagwan, Bill Smith and Tim Harrison for their dedication to this project. It was a real pleasure to work with each of them.
Since that time the department has purchased two S-70A variants of the Blackhawk, completed training for pilots and crews, and has placed them in service. As with any new design, there have been some problems with the retractable snorkel system, but they are working through them and the aircraft are proving themselves to be a valuable addition to the fleet.
