My amp purchases have slowed some but
here are a couple of new directions. The Acoustic is proof
that ebay and beer don't mix! I bought this one out of
sentimental value, I used to use one. I'm afraid I've been
bitten by the Marshall bug. John Davidson sold me the JCM
800 4104 and I was hooked. Of course, it didn't stop there.
I now have a 2203 100 watt amp head with a 1960 A & B
speaker cabinets to go along with the combo.
Marshall JCM 800 4104 combo w/ 1960B
cabinet

JCM 800 2203 w/1960B cab

As mentioned above, this is a Marshall
JCM 800 4104 50 watt combo amp. It is the same head as a
2204 except it is flipped upside down. The knobs as well as
jacks are reversed, even the switches are backwards! This
was s simple way to make it work without changing the
design. This one was made in 1981 and has been voiced with
EL34's instead of 6550 power tubes. It will take you're head
off! It is setting on top of a JCM 800 1960B 4-12" speaker
cabinet. This is the bottom half of the legendary stack. It
has 4 Celestion G75T speakers which are stock now in these
cabinets. I wish I was a better guitar player, this
certainly is a fun rig to play! Yes, I found one! An
absolutely PRISTENE 2203 100 watt Marshall head! This is so
clean you could eat of of it! The JCM 800 series came along
in 1981, getting there name from his initials and his car
tag! These were THE amps of the 80's. As you noticed on the
cover page, I've found an "A" cabinet. Whew! What
fun!
ACOUSTIC 150 w/106 cabinet

Acoustic was another popular amp company
based out of the L.A. area. The Doors were probably the
first big group to exclusively use these. The Hollywood Bowl
concert was a great showcase for these. Other groups, such
as the Mahavishnu Orchestra also used Acoustic. Many acts
used these because they were extremely loud and clean. The
360 bass amp was the industry standard in the 70's. It
incorporated a 18" speaker in a powered folded horn cabinet.
Both innovative and desirable features. This is a 150 guitar
amp with a 106 bass cabinet. This was a great keyboard rig.
You could also get this head with a 4-12" or 6-10" cabinet.
The amp is 110 watts at 4 ohms. This one is an interesting
variation. The head has the new color scheme with the old
style aluminum knobs and lettering. The serial tag says
Altec/University so it could possibly have been a joint
venture. Acoustics used Altec speakers which added to their
power and clean tone.
