I remember, when I was in public school, I had a class on the founding of this country, on the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America. They are filled with words, words that mean wonderful things.

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

These words mean as much today as the day they were penned more than 200 years ago. How then can it be that such promises by men and women of honor can be broken by so many in power and in every day life. The discrimination and abuse that occurs to people on the spectrum is rampant; and what is our crime that brings such suffering down upon us? It is that we are born different. We are not sick in need of cures, mentally ill in need of drugs except to help us combat the discrimination and abuse others have heaped upon us, nor are we disabled in need of pity!

We are different in need of acceptance of who we are; who our genetics make us.

I ask nothing more than to be met half way, and even this appears to be too much for the so-called "normal masses" (or, as many call them, NTs) to give. Even the Spectrum societies that are created to help us overcome the discrimination, abuse and hate of these NTs are themselves staffed by NTs; their boards rarely have even one member on them who is not an NT. They seem to ignore all but the children, hoping that if they just get to them early enough that can make them "normal", and in these attempts, some children have died.

Others are even working on ways to detect the "abnormal genes" of a child of the spectrum so they can be aborted: in my opinion a form of genocide. They seem to think that if I were given a choice of this life or no life, I would have chosen no life. That is just not the case. I admit that the life I have has been hell (a hell of NT design), but even that life is better than no life at all. And I have found some happiness with my wife (also an Aspie) and pets.

Some people might wonder, if it were possible to go back and be born an NT, would I do it? The answer is easy, no. I could never want to be a member of the group that seems so determined to make my life and the lives of others on the spectrum a living hell. I say now, for all to hear, the discrimination and abuse must end!

I refuse to take it any longer! No longer will I stand and take the abuse that is so easily dished out by NTs - and neither should any other Aspie. We have civil rights spelled out in the Constitution of the United States of America. Rights our Aspie forefathers (and mothers) shed blood so that we could be free. We have the Americans with Disabilities Act and we should not let NTs forget it.

We need to start letting Mr. and Mrs. NT America know that we are going to stand up and fight for our birthright; our civil rights!
