Torrance Amateur Radio Association

Supporting the City of Torrance, California by providing Emergency and Public Service Event Communications

Membership in TARA is open to licensed amateur radio operators who live or work in the city of Torrance. A good way to start is to check in as a visitor to the TARA net on Monday night at 7:00 PM.

If you are not an amateur radio operator and would like to become one, it's not hard. We suggest attending one of the quarterly license classes conducted by Walt Ordway K1DFO for the Palos Verdes ARC. Frequent nearby amateur radio license exam sessions are noted on the TARA calendar.

TARA members must complete a course covering SEMS, the California Standardized Emergency Management System. Members must pass a police background check in order to receive a TARA ID card and obtain access to the TARA station inside the police building and restricted areas in a disaster.
