It had the same type photo-realistic images of heavenly bodies as FS5 has for scenery. I can see it now, someone will make a space plane to fly using FS5 up to orbit and then we hop aboard the Space Sim to get us to the first ever flyin on Mars - let's see, we could set a date now like maybe April 1994! (The Nov/Dec issue of MicroWINGS Magazine is slated to cover this new sim so don't miss it!). Tower ----- Mallard was also showing what their Tower product is going to look like. They were showing Tower/Pro using two screens (one for the radar view and the other for the tower view). The shipping PC product will only support one monitor but since it is a Windows program, you can size and move windows around to see simultaneous views. Tower was another hit for the masses at CES. Hugo Feugen (CEO for BAO) was demonstrating the product without ever touching the keyboard! Tower will support 3rd party voice recognition devices - at CES, they were using a unit from Verbex. It was amazing to watch Hugo issue plain English instructions like "American Two Fifty One, Turn Left Next Taxi Way and Contact Ground When Off". All this while answering questions to the crowd. Tower could distinguish commands directed to it and ignore the other chatter! The Tower view showed a 360 degree actual photograph from the Tower at Washington National. Using a mouse, the user just pans around to the view they want to see. Watching airplanes (super-imposed on the photograph) in a very realistic looking manner (of the same or better quality of the Lear in FS5) taxing, taking off, landing, flying patterns, aborting landings, etc. all under the control of Hugo's verbal commands was very awesome. BTW, the simulated pilots in these airplanes spoke back using digitized sound files, all their requests, read backs, and chatter. Tower is to ship with hooks to allow it to communicate with FS5 using the Dual Player feature. Miscellaneous ------------- Other cool stuff at the show was the Thrustmaster Cockpit - some even on 3-axis hydraulics!, the new Flightstick Pro from CH, and a chair that you sit in that pivots like the handle of joystick. So, when you sit down and lean left, you not only simulate physically the turn, but actually make the aircraft turn since the seat is really just a huge joystick! At under $200, I guess one could call it the poor man's 2- axis motion simulator! MicroWINGS Magazine will feature in-depth information and reviews of FS5 in the upcoming Vol. 1, No. 3 issue. It is slated to be mailed to members around the 3rd week of July. Don't miss it! One thing I've particularly enjoyed about the Stearman is that you can set the spot plane in close, at about five feet distance and altitude, and literally get right in the cockpit. I usually fly it that way, rather than from the "cockpit" view, because it's more realistic. Later (45 min left), (H)elp, End of Message Command? One thing you can try on exterior surfaces is to use an insignia as a patch over the area where you are getting bleed through. I used this trick to some extent on the "Cannibal," which is one of the planes I've uploaded. The other thing you have to do is experiment until you understand exactly how various elements of the design have "priority in display, and make sure you choose the proper left or right designation for part. Minimize designation of parts or structures as part of the fuselage, unless you want it displayed in every instance in which the fuselage itself control the view. The same goes with the "nose," where you're looking at a forward view. If your working on a twin engine design, you have to go to the nose right and nose left designations to avoid one side bleeding through to the other. Finally, you have to be careful in adding things like windows and wings that you get the proper (45 min left), (H)elp, More? designation from side to side. I've had the problem particularly on the twin engine designs I've worked on (i.e., the T-Bone, which I've also uploaded) where I have designed the engine from the left side of the plane, but get confused in adding it, and give it a right side designation. The easiest way to attack the problem is to go ahead with the design, get all your parts designed and added, and then play with the designations and patches until you get most of the bleed through eliminated. It takes time, and a lot of going "Back to the Drawing Board." The real trick is simply having the patients to keep trying different combinations until you get one that suits you. I use SEE4 quite a -> bit, if there's anything you want to talk about, I'd be glad to -> discuss it. There's probably not as much to talk about now that Flight Sim 5.0 is shipping... except whether or not their will be a SEE05 when the new version of ASD comes out! Let's hope so! In fact, I will be uploading a new SCN (not ASD SC1 files) for the DFW-TCA in a few days, as soon as I get the docs and a few other files written. Give it a try. It's good, 680+K, and it's free. Not much has changed here. Still writing when someone will buy. Things have been tough for the past three years. In fact, I went a year without a sale. Recently, I've sold three books in England, and today Bantam said they will be sending a contract on a new book for them--the biggest single book sale I've made so far (ain't gonna make me rich, but it will keep food on the table. Are you designing any scenery--planes--etc. etc? I also hate FS5 for a great variety of reasons, but am working on turning out BGL scenery files. I've had a little success, but not enough to upload anything. I get on this board every two weeks to once a month. I am having problems getting any variety in the scenarios on the VFR flights in Flight Adv. 701. Specifically, I will be flying along and will be given the handoff to Travis when my engine appears to want to quit. The engine either just magically restarts itself ( with no restart command ), or continues to go through a sputter and restart sequence until the adventure is over. Could I have something set that is overriding what the adventure is trying to create? In answer to someone's query earlier, I have checked and DO have all of the .VOC files in my directory. Please help if you can. Thanks, Joe Oliver, La Crescenta, CA. (41 min left), (H)elp, End of Message Command? How can add my own voice files to the voice files already in the flight adventures? I would like to have BOTH sides of the conversation on during theadventure. 2. I'm having a problem with 685. When I want to do the IFR flight, I get the tower voices only up to getting clearance delivery. After that the only thing I hear is the voice files from other aircraft. I haven't been able to figure out why I'm losing the tower communications. Any suggestions?
