Serving Sylacauga since 1896

The congregation of St. Andrew's meets for worship at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday. The Sunday service is Holy Communion.

We had our annual parish meeting on Sunday, Sept. 27 after the morning service. Those members present were Jaimie Hemby, Patricia Hemby, Elizabeth Young, Bonnie Messer, Dale Price, Amy Price, Jim Ward, Donna Dickey, Jo Moore, Rick Morgan, Celeste Morgan and Michelle Huckabee, Fr. Frank presided.
We elected Amy Price and Rick Morgan to the Vestry for a three year term. They join Doris Holmes who has two more years and Michelle Huckabee and Jaimie Hemby who have one more year on the vestry. [At the vestry meeting after the parish meeting, the new vestry elected Doris Holmes as Senior Warden, Rick Morgan as Junior Warden, Michelle Huckabee as clerk and Jaimie Hemby as Treasurer.]
Rick Morgan was elected as delegate to the 2010 Diocesan Convention. Celeste Morgan was elected as alternate delegate.
The treasurer reported on the budget. Our financial cushion has almost all eroded. There is approximately $2,000 in the general fund, $2,000 in the memorial fund and $4,000 in the building fund.
It was noted that the STEM percentage will drop from 62.5% to 50% on December 1st when Fr. Frank retires. This 50% will still provide funds to pay for interim clergy support, the work of the search committee, operational costs for administrative tasks and to build up funds to provide for the moving costs of a new rector.
There will also be a new fund established, the rectory renovation fund, to which members may make donations. These funds will be used to fix up the rectory in preparation for a new rector to move into it.
Fr. Frank spoke to the stewardship program, our faith pledge system, during his sermon this morning. All members are asked to remember to use their stewardship calendars for the next 28 days leading up to faith pledge Sunday on November 1st.
A report was made on the process by which the parish will seek a new rector. That will begin on Sunday, Oct. 18th when the newly elected vestries from the three parishes will meet at the cluster council. The Rev. Pat Wingo, deputy to the Bishop, will be there to start the process leading ultimately to calling a new rector.

St. Andrew's is privileged to have been one of the first churches established in Sylacauga. The original church downtown is still depicted on pictures found in various places in the city showing the first six churches. The "new" building was moved to what was then the edge of town in 1927. Later additions exapnded the size of the worship area, added a kitchen and a parish hall. Most people in town know it simply as "THAT pretty little white church on the corner." We're more than that. We're a living and ministering community deeply committed to continuing to serve our community in Christ's Name.
