Also called the 'Army Model', but no army used them. Looking like a modern swingout
revolver, it is actually an obscure solid frame single action made by the same company as were the Merwin-Hulberts,
~1886. Note similarities in the loading gate. The ejector is similar to the Belgian type and is stored in the cylinder pin.
This gun is in .44-40 caliber and has the scarce 4.5" barrel. Only a few hundred made, far less than Colt
single actions of the same period, but only worth 1/3 as much. Not for sale.
MERWIN-HULBERT
The MERWIN HULBERT, little known today, was the #4 big revolver of the Old
West, after Colt, S&W, and Remington. Note the unique extraction system. This particular gun, in .44-40 caliber, appears
to be a rare transitional model, with the scooped cylinder flutes of a 2nd Model Frontier Army, and the topstrap of
the 3rd Model. Flayderman shows such a gun, and I tried 2 straight-flute cylinders from 3rd Models, and they didn't
fit. Serial # on back of original cylinder is not visible. Overall condition of the gun is just Fair, although the action
works very well and the frame locks up tight, sans "suction". It is not shootable because of severe pitting in the
chambers, pierced thru at 2 stop notches; bore retains ~50% rifling. Refinished brite, uncut 7" barrel, replaced Rosewood
grips and lanyard ring. $750(sold).
Here's another M-H with cut barrel and pearl grips (not for sale):
You'll not likely see this one at your local gun show. .36 cal. Civil War DA Starr
revolver converted in Belgium to 11mm Montenegrin. Would have been easier to convert a .44; note .36 frame. Not in any book.
5-shot cylinder is 2.2" long and .45 Colt ammo is too small for it. The loading levers were usually discarded on conversions.
Not for sale.
These BULLET TRAPS answer the need for an
inexpensive device which can be used in a basement or back yard. They can handle most ammunition under 2000 fps, including
the .45-70 cartridge. The large one on the left is made by inserting one of my hardened(440 Rockwell) 20"x13.75" splash plates
diagonally into a modified ammo container. Target area is 15.5"x10.5". The spikes on the corners hold a piece of cardboard
for mounting targets and keeping the lead dust inside the trap. It is necessary to have a 2" border around the front to control
secondary splatter. Your cost for the plate only is $35+shipping(25lb). I'll give you instructions and a cheap source for
the ammo container(about $15). By making the trap yourself you save big bucks and my liability is reduced.
The trap on the right is less involved and smaller. It is merely an Outers .22LR trap with a 12"x10.75" plate held in place
with two 4" C-clamps. The plate is only $20+shipping(12lb), FOB 30329.
Although no problems were encountered during testing, it is concievable that someone could be seriously injured or killed
through the improper use of these traps. Therefore, the Seller can not be responsible for accidents arising therefrom.

A BRACE OF 28ga DOUBLE-BARREL PINFIRE HOWDAH PISTOLS makes a statement (in Spanish). If only they
could talk...
These appear to have been made by the same hand, but are slightly different; the bottom one has less wear, but the wrong
grips(can you whittle?). Incredibly, both of them still work perfectly, in spite of their age and crude manufacture. Best
of all, you can actually shoot them with the reloadable pinfire cases I made up and the German 15mm flares. These are available
at gun shows, but I'll give you a mail-order source as well. They come in 3 flavors; the red or Report type sounds exactly
like the old outlawed M-80 firecracker(remember those?). The green and yellow versions are Racket and Screamer. (sold)
GUN OF THE MONTH
The MERWIN HULBERT, little known today, was the #4 big revolver of the Old West, after Colt, S&W, and
Remington. Note the unique extraction system. This particular gun, in .44-40 caliber, appears to be a rare transitional model,
with the scooped cylinder flutes of a 2nd Model Frontier Army, and the topstrap of the 3rd Model. Flayderman shows such
a gun, and I tried 2 straight-flute cylinders from 3rd Models, and they didn't fit. Serial # on back of original
cylinder is not visible. Overall condition of the gun is just Fair, although the action works very well and the frame
locks up tight, sans "suction". It is not shootable because of severe pitting in the chambers, pierced thru at 2
stop notches; bore retains ~50% rifling. Refinished brite, uncut 7" barrel, replaced Rosewood grips and lanyard ring. (sold)
These BULLET TRAPS answer the need for an inexpensive device which can be used in a basement or back
yard. They can handle most ammunition under 2000 fps, including the .45-70 cartridge. The large one on the left is made by
inserting one of my hardened(440 Rockwell) 20"x13.75" splash plates diagonally into a modified ammo container. Target area
is 15.5"x10.5". The spikes on the corners hold a piece of cardboard for mounting targets and keeping the lead dust inside
the trap. It is necessary to have a 2" border around the front to control secondary splatter. Your cost for the plate only
is $35+shipping(25lb). I'll give you instructions and a cheap source for the ammo container(about $15). By making the trap
yourself you save big bucks and my liability is reduced.
The trap on the right is less involved and smaller. It is merely an Outers .22LR trap with a 12"x10.75" plate held in place
with two 4" C-clamps. The plate is only $20+shipping(12lb).
Although no problems were encountered during testing, it is concievable that someone could be seriously injured or killed
through the improper use of these traps. Therefore, the Seller can not be responsible for accidents arising therefrom.
STRIKEHARD LURES, available only from Steve's Militaria, $6ea.
From left to right: the Grasshopper, Dragonfly, Grubworm, Yellow Jacket, and Wasp. These spinning lures are ~2.75" in length
and were developed especially for freshwater pan fish.
