THE EXPEDITION

THE PADDLE FOR OVARIAN CANCER was inspired by Suzie Dale's mother. Ann Dale was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in January, 2003. After a courageous struggle, her body succumbed to the disease in August, 2003. This trip seeks to honor not only the memory of Ann Dale, but of all those who have been affected by ovarian cancer.

Trisha, Rachel, Suzie and Frewin will begin their journey in San Felipe and paddle 800 miles along the rocky coastland to Cabo San Lucas. They are hoping to catch some favorable winds along the way and are taking umbrellas to act as improvised sails. Other equipment includes a spear to catch fish, a satellite telephone, lots of sunscreen, and a camera to record their journey, hopefully to turn their footage into a documentary that will raise awareness of ovarian cancer.

The Paddle is sponsored by Eddyline Kayaks, Burly Girls, and YMCA Camp Orkila on Orcas Island, Washington where Rachel, Frewin, Suzie and Trisha have worked leading kayak tours.

They would love to hear somewords of encouragement during their trip (seventy-five days can get pretty long). They will be stopping weekly at villages along the way to get provisions and find an internet cafe. Their journals will appear on this website.
