Elijah (Biggie) Courson
A tribute published in the Appling County Citizen (Baxley, Georgia) on May 23, 1975.

Elijah (Biggie) Courson, age 76 passed away May 22, 1975 in the Ware Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was a lifelong resident of Appling County and was a member of the Hopewell Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School for a number of years and was active in all phases of church work.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Stella Lynn Courson of Baxley; five daughters, Mrs. Ruby Goolsby of Albany, Mrs. Thelma Christy, Mrs. Uldine Beasley, Mrs, Annie Laurie Wilson, and Mrs. Mary Leggett, all of Baxley; one son, Howard Courson of Jacksonville, Florida; one brother, Archie Courson of Baxley; twenty-one grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 11:00 am at Hopewell Methodist Church with the reverend Scott Douglas, Leo Weaver and Johnny Courson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers were grandsons, James Thomas, Gerald Thomas, Jerry Beasley, Billie Leggett, Mike Goolsby, and Timothy Courson. Honorary pallbearers were the men of Hopewell Methodist Church. Swain Funeral Home was in charge.

Funeral services for Mrs. Stella Lynn Courson were held Friday at 3:00 pm at Hopewell Methodist Church with Gene Scott, Leo Weaver, and Johnny Courson officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers were grandsons. Active pallbearers were grandsons, Gerald Thomas, Jerry Beasley, Billie Leggett, Mike Goolsby, Timothy Courson, and Jerry Baucum. Honorary pallbearers were the men of Hopewell Methodist Church.

Mrs. Courson died Thursday at her home on Route 4 after a long illness. She was a life long resident of Appling County and a member of Hopewell Methodist Church.

Survivors include five daughters: Mrs. Ruby Goolsby of Albany, Mrs. Thelma Christy, Mrs. Uldine Beasley, Mrs, Annie Laurie Wilson, and Mrs. Mary Leggett, all of Baxley; one son, Howard Courson of Jacksonville, Florida; one sister, Miss Etta Lynn of Baxley; twenty-one grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Swain Funeral Home was in charge.
