Fred Roper, President of the HSCA, is an avid chess player with many titles under his belt (Oklahoma Amateur Champion 1983; Oklahoma Speed Champion 1989, 1990, 1993, 1994 and 1998). He also won the expert section of the 1992 North American Open -- defeating International Master John Donaldson along the way.

His most recent achievement was coming in 2nd place in the 2001 AmericInn National Championship finals held in St. Paul, MN. (see picture below)

He achieved the coveted title of National Master from the United States Chess Federation in November, 1990.

Fred Roper is the author of Starting From Square One -- a beginner's guide to chess. He is also a certified Chess Coach and Senior Tournament Director by the United States Chess Federation.
