Think Big

A personal piece done in '95, in graphite. I was just thinking about the cliche of the big-brained alien, and took it to an extreme, as a sort of parody and just a strange image. I used some symbolism in this piece, to tie into a sort of vague story I have in mind behind it; He is the ruler of this civilization (the head support has a crown-like shape). He is so, not by choice but by necessity, because he is the most intelligent one. He is imprisoned by the responsibility of this political office (the support struts form bars that surround him). He holds "executive worry balls," one of which looks like Earth. The other is his planet. This indicates that he is in the throes of making a decision that will affect both worlds. You might be perplexed by the strange little symbol in the bottom right corner. It is a monogram I used to sign my work with, formed by overlapping the letters of my first name. I haven't been using that symbol much in recent years, though.

This drawing is being used in the role-playing game called "Spaceship Zero" based on the album of the same name by the band: The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets.
