Beetle Dragon

This was a card, poster and box cover illustration for AEG's Warlord: Saga of the Storm CCG. Since it was to be used in all these different formats, I had to plan out the composition such that it would work both vertically, with type at the top, or cropped horizontally.

I wanted to do a dragon that was unique-looking, so I took inspiration from the rhinoceros beetle. I chose to include some rather bright colors (set against the more subdued, dull purplish color of the background) to really make it an attention-grabber.
