Martyr

I was given a great deal of freedom by Alderac Entertainment Group on this piece for their Warlord: Saga of the Storm card game. I was told that this dwarf, wielding magical hammers, was to be sacrificing himself in battle to save his people somehow. I envisioned a scenario like that in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers during the battle of Helm's Deep, with the bomb-bearing Uruk-hai charging in. In this case, this dwarf is leaping to certain death, but to strike a final, decisive blow that will be critical to the battle.

The magic hammers allowed me a great excuse to set up a dramatic lighting situation. A couple shots of airbrush, and the effect was complete.
