Living on the water for a scuba diving vacation can mean different things to different people – a cruise ship, a dedicated diveboat with sleeping quarters, or a hired yacht. See which suits you best.
Decisions, decisions - Time To Cruise
DECISIONS, DECISIONS, DECISIONS!

So, you're going on a scuba diving vacation! Is it to be as much bottom-time as the dive tables will allow, or do want to do other things, too? Are you going alone and want to meet new people, or are you going with others, some of whom may not be divers? Are you certified, or do you want to learn to dive on vacation?

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?
Cruise ships represent the ultimate dive adventure for some divers. They have gained popularity in recent years, and some now offer scuba diving and snorkeling as part of their itinerary. They are floating resorts where you travel in comfort, and dive in several exotic destinations. If you like the idea of visiting different places and experiencing the different diving they each offer, a cruise may be for you.
The cruise Carnival Cruise line @ Time To Cruise experience offers more than just diving — a variety of entertainment, several onboard restaurants and nightclubs, evening shows, casino, dancing, etc.
You can do the academic part of your scuba course before you go and then complete your certification on the cruise, or do the whole course while on vacation. Likewise, with liveaboards.
Liveaboards are special diveboats with sleeping facilities. This is 100% diving — you can make several dives a day, every day — all at the best sites a destination has to offer while sharing with a dozen or more like-minded people.

CRUISES ARE FOR FAMILIES
Travelling with non-divers? On a cruise, they can try diving, if they want, with an introductory course, or go do something else entirely – there are plenty of other onboard activities for them to enjoy.
When you make a dive trip during a cruise, a local dive operator will pick you up at the dock and bring you back before the ship leaves. You can go off diving while your companions go sightseeing – everyone gets to do what they want. And, if your children are too young to dive, no worries – there are plenty of things for them to do, all organized by the cruise line.
On the other hand, liveaboards are less suitable for non-diving partners. There's little for non-divers to do, but you will surely get more diving done. Scuba Diving Picture - permission requested A typical day on a liveaboard will be: early morning dive – breakfast – mid-morning dive – lunch – one or two afternoon dives – dinner – night dive. And the same thing the next day! Between dives, you can relax in the spa, watch videos in the salon, or collapse from exhaustion! All this in companionship with new-found friends, scuba divers all.
Liveaboard dive-boats also have the advantage of being able to get to reefs that typical day boats cannot reach. Everything on the boat – from the amenities to the crew – is about diving and about making it easy and convenient to dive, without having to accommodate non-divers.

YACHT FOR HIRE
Sailing or motor yachts are avaialble for hire, as bareboat charter (you do the driving – you'll need a captain's license or other) or crewed (chauffeur driven). This can make an extremely enjoyable vacation — you go where you want, when you want, at your pace. Skipper and crew not only handle the yacht – with your assistance, if you feel inclined – and the diving, but also all the cooking and other ' household ' duties. With prior arrangement, you get the meals you want, cooked the way you like, and even your own particular favorite brand of refreshment or whatever.
Comparing a cruise to a crewed yacht charter is like comparing a large impersonal hotel and a private Bed & Breakfast inn.

ONBOARD EDUCATION
If you want to get the classroom and basic skills out of the way, you can do that before you go on vacation and then complete the open water and final checkout there. That way, you spend most of your vacation time diving. Or, maybe you don't have the time or inclination to do this, and intend to do it all on vacation. Either way is possible. More so, now that scuba training is designed to get you into the water as quickly as possible. Even the classroom stuff is easier when the ' classroom ' is a table under a coconut tree or a veranda overlooking a sun-drenched bay!
