Who We Are

Foss Mountain Design was founded by Dennis Sullivan in 2002 to promote the development of educational materials that actively engage people in the learning process.

image of Dennis SullivanDennis Sullivan is an honors graduate of the University of California at Berkeley with over 25 years of experience in the development of educational software and exhibits. He managed software development for the Sesame Place amusement park and home software packages at the Children's Television Workshop. He has consulted on exhibit software for Parc de la Villette, the French National Museum of Science and Industry; the Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley, California; and the New York Hall of Science.  He co-produced a cultural history exhibit in Crawford Notch Depot for the Appalachian Mountain Club and interactive exhibits for Northern Forest Heritage Park.

Dennis consulted on development of The Voyage of the Mimi and designed curriculum for Atari Computer Camps and the New England Science Center Collaborative. He produced Audubon Wildlife Adventures, a series of software products on endangered species for the National Audubon Society. Programs produced by Dennis Sullivan have been adopted by the Florida State Department of Education, the Wyoming Department of Fish and Game, and the national Higher Order Thinking Skills program. They have received awards from the Parent's Choice Foundation, Family Computing, and Classroom Computer Learning. His Grizzly Bears program was described by the New York Times as "the very model of an educational program."

Foss Mountain Design draws on a team of writers, illustrators, programmers, photographers and other professionals as needed for each project.  Your project with us may include some of these past collaborators:

The Dovetail Group, Inc., an Emmy award winning educational video production company.  They have created music themes and title opens for many TV shows, created award winning video adaptations of prestigious children’s books, and developed video series for Children’s Television Workshop.

Deborah Kovacs, a former editor of Sesame Street Magazine and director of Scholastic Software.  As well as collaborating on the Audubon Wildlife Adventures software with Dennis Sullivan, she has authored children’s books and created an educational magazine for Woods Hole.

Doreen Curtin of Tundra Design Studio, an exceptionally gifted graphic designer and biological illustrator.  She has produced materials for the National Audubon Society and many nature centers including Salisbury Park Zoo, Trexler-Lehigh Game Preserve, and Lake Superior Zoo.

Dave Thurlow, meteorologist, naturalist, and science educator.  Dave created The Weather Notebook, a nationally syndicated public radio program, and led development of the Weather Discovery Center.  He has collaborated on projects with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, New Hampshire Public Television, and the Environmental Defense Fund.
