INTRODUCTION
Orange Beach, Alabama is a community located near the Gulf of Mexico with a
year round population of 4,000. During the tourist season, which runs from May
through August plus "Spring Break", the population increases to 35,000 to 40,000.
Normal off season waste water flows average between 1.2 and 1.8 million gallons
per day (gpd). During the tourist season, however, the flow increases to
approximately 2.4 mgpd. Due to the increasing tourism, flows are expected to
increase to 2.8 mgpd during the 1997 season.
Over the past several years, the influx of tourist has severely stressed the waste
water treatment facility, not only due to increased volume of waste water, but
because of higher loading of B.O.D., especially from local restaurants and resorts.
Our technology saved money for sewage plant expansion.
