MAX'S STORY

Max was returned to his breeder at 2 years old in 2004-2005. His breeder is a truck driver who could not give Max the care he needed.

Max was left unattended in a back yard with another dog for weeks at time with only a friend coming by to check on them.

It was reported to me by a friend of the breeder that the dog was in trouble and needed to be rescued. She put the breeder/owner of max in touch with me this was August 2008, with some convincing he finally gave Max to a friend of mine February 2009.

When I picked max up I could not believe my eye's! this was the biggest fattest cocker I had ever seen. His skin and hair was in the worst shape I had ever seen a dog. The hour ride home was long Max stunk so bad I had to roll the windows down to breath.

Max had no muscle mass at all, he was top heavy and could hardly walk much less run, I could see Max so badly wanted to run and smile. I could see under all that mess there was a merry cocker just wanting to be loved.

Max would try to run, and he would fall flat on his face, thank goodness it was winter and we had some fluffy white snow for him to fall on.

Max's skin was in very poor shape, it was like leather there was so much gunk built up on it. He got a bath every other day for 2 weeks with medicated shampoo, he had to be on an antibiotic because of the sores created by the disgusting gunk built up on his skin.

I put max on Solid gold holistic food, sea meal, salmon oil and derma caps. A vet visit determined his thyroid was so low he would not have lasted much longer living that way. It has taken 5 months, but as you can see Max has come a long way. he has lost weight, runs like the wind with a smile on his face.

Max has a hip that he favors, but has built up his muscle mass now and gets along well. Max also may have cataracts it can't be determined until he is seen by an eye specialist he has blue spots on both eye's , I can't tell if it is the color of his eye's or cataracts. However Max can see really well.

Max has made such progress he really is a new dog with lots of energy! , he loves to run, play fetch, take rides, and he loves food! Max has made such great improvement that he has been in training for basic obedience skills. since he loves food he is easy to train, I discovered quickly in training that Max knows how to shake (give paw) for a treat.

Max needs an owner that has some time to give him exercise and lots of love, continue is diet. Max still needs to have his hip and eye's addressed so he needs an owner that is willing to take care of his needs.

Max needs a home that will have patience as it takes Max a day or so to get use to new people as he may have been suddenly frightened by a man. It took my husband 5 days before max would allow him to pet him, but now Max trusts him totally. I thought I would have trouble with the veterinarian, but since DR. Leilani Wilson is female he loved her.

Max excepts grooming well and enjoys the bonding time.

Max gets on fine with our dogs, but he does protect his toys and food from other dogs.

Max is a fun loving cocker! Once he gets to know you he will be the best friend you ever had.

Max is now ready to be adopted to a special home , Please help Max find his forever loving home!
