| Marine ecology is of special interest to me. I began my college pursuit as a biology major headed for marine biology; that is until chemistry de-railed me. After I became a scuba instructor I taught marine awareness in addition to scuba, because I believed that divers would be more comfortable and gain more enjoyment from their diving experience if they were not afraid of what they saw (or didn't see). One of my inspirations was Dee Scarr's "Touch the Sea". Another part of my course dealt with the importance of neutral bouyancy. Becoming comfortable with bouyancy control is the second most important skill a diver can learn in regards to comfort after mask clearing. Most students never fully attain the skill in their Open Water class and if not properly encouraged, may never learn it. Additionally, damage from fin dragging and silt from stirring the bottom, highly contributes to reef kill. | Marine Life Conservation - A quite extensive collection of marine life conservation pages |
