About Our Club

WHO WE ARE . . .

We are members of the National Garden Clubs, the Federated Garden Clubs of Vermont, the Vermont
Institute of Natural Science, and Garden Sponsor Member of Vermont Community Botanical Garden. Our
members come from communities in the Orleans County to share our common interests.

OUR PURPOSE . . .

Our purpose is to stimulate knowledge of gardening: to aid in the protection of native trees,
environment, plants, and birds; to encourage and promote civic plantings and beautification of our homes
and conservation of our resources.

CLUB PROJECTS . . .

We maintain the 19th Century Display Garden at the Cyrus Eaton House, at the Old Stone House
Museum in Brownington, Vermont, a daffodil garden at Gardner Park and the gardens at North Country
Hospital both in Newport, Vermont. We sponsor science programs for local schools, an information booth
at the Orleans County Fair, and provide holiday arrangements for senior care centers.

Our main fundraiser is an annual Plant Sale held in early June.

OUR MEETINGS . . .

We usually meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. at various locations around the
county. Our programs include speakers, workshops and field trips. Members enjoy sharing gardening tips
and experiences, as well as delicious luncheons provided by members or out at restaurants.

MEMBERSHIP . . .

Qualification for membership in the Club is an active interest in gardening and willingness to
participate in Club activities. Prospective members are invited to attend a monthly club meeting,
and if they choose to join, a current club member would work with them as a mentor for the first year.

We offer two levels of Membership:

$16 Active Membership shall be defined as attendance at meetings and workshops, participation in the Club’s
projects, willingness to serve on committees, and hold office as able.  All members shall serve on at least one
committee each year, and serve as facilitator or hostess for one meeting. They shall also be encouraged to make a
flower arrangement for a meeting. As able, members are expected to work on one of our public gardens during
gardening season.

$26 Supporting Membership shall be defined as those who are interested in club activities but are unable to
participate actively.  They shall have the privilege of attending meetings, but not to make motions or to vote.
