I had a gravelly area by the garage where weeds grew, but not much else. Until I discovered Creeping Phlox! I set out a few plants, and soon they carpeted the area with dense, evergreen foliage that grows about 4" tall. In the spring, the plants are completely covered with flowers! I like the "Emerald Pink" variety, but there are nice blue and white varieties as well. Even though they grow in nearly bone dry places, make sure they get enough water and don't dry out.
