Our Teams
Riverview is always represented at the State Drill Meet. The Drill Team wins trophies at drill meets around the County and State. The Drill Team fields male and female platoons and squads, with and without drill rifles, a fancy drill unit that spins rifles, and individual competitors. The entire unit is the largest after school activity and requires dedication and practice. They also travel more than any other team.
At Riverview the Color Guards perform more than any other team and present the colors at least 30 times a year at football games, parades, community functions, School Board Meetings, etc. The Principal, parents, and dignitaries always commended them for their performances. The Color Guard Cadets are the School's standard bearers in more ways than one.
The Rifle Team fired in the 2008 and 2007 Eastern Region Final Marksmanship Match at Ft. Benning, Ga. Only the best shooters in the Country get invited to this Match. In 2007 they also got to tour Ft. Benning, the Home of the Infantry. The Team participates in at least nine matches each year using CO2 powered pellet guns. Year before last their "A" Team won two shoulder to shoulder matches and won two trophies and several individual medals. They always bring home awards. Like other teams, cadets must qualify for membership. Cadets must be mature and totally responsible. Prospective members must pass a written test, demonstrate knowledge of good weapons safety, respect firearms, and shoot with accuracy.
"Raiders Lead the Way." Our Raiders (military skills and physical fitness) are THE SARASOTA COUNTY CHAMPIONS. THEY WON THE OVERALL TROPHY AT THE LAST SARASOTA COUNTY SHERIFF'S COMPETITION. At the Lake Wales Raider Challenge they were the only team that stayed together during the entire forced march. Like members of other teams, Raiders must be good citizens and highly motivated but as an adventure training unit, they must also be in excellent physical condition.
