The Rifle Team attended the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Training camp in Georgia in July. They did very well and learned a lot about shooting. One Cadet took the Gold Medal for high overall score. He also took the Silver Medals for 2nd Highest Score in all three positions. In addition another Cadet tied with the Gold Medal winner for 2nd Place in Prone and both received a Silver Medal. Three Cadets were awarded Bronze CMP Sanctioned Match Pins and one received one of two Gold CMP Sanctioned Match Pins. Their goal is to return to Fort Benning this year for the Eastern Region Match.
Cadets who traveled with us on the annual North Georgia/Appalachian Trail trip in July 07 had quite an experience. The hike was challenging both physically and mentally since they spent five days hiking up and down rugged and beautiful mountains totally isolated from civilization. The unusually dry conditions and uncertainty about the availability of water from mountain streams prevented the hikers from traveling as far as planned. Nevertheless they quickly learned the A Trail is only for the physically fit and well disciplined. They are all proud of themselves for an achievement that few ever attempt in their lifetimes. After the hike they cooled off with a refreshing tubing float down a cool river, toured an underground gold mine, panned for gold, and enjoyed a breakfast buffet.
