• 1.5 million books in print, & 1 million out-of-print are available at Amazon.com online bookstore.
• Barnes & Noble online has just as many books. Free registration gets you their emailed news updates.
• Look up the latest releases from Putnam Berkley Books...
• Macmillan Publishing allows you to keep 5 books in a virtual personal bookshelf for 90 days after filling out their free registration.  They also maintain a current list of books from which you may choose - it appears that they're mostly related to computing in general (including several computing languages), but hey? I can't complain...
• Another place to search for information about new books, authors, etc. is the Bookweb.
• The Mysterious Homepage -- An alternative way to "kill" time... Or find some good reading.
• Read it right on your screen! at Books On-line. You can search by Title, or Author, or Subject.

• A  Virtual Reference Desk for the internet.  Almost like the real thing.
• Another Virtual Reference Desk on the net, they prefer the title General Reference Resources.

Search the General Reference Resources:

• The Madden Library (Henry, not John) at Cal State is a suprisingly rich library full of information.
• At 17,000+ subjects, you can surf through a free online Encyclopedia.

What would you like to look up in the encyclopedia?

• Find definitions of almost any word using the Virtual Dictionary (like "manus", for example).

Word to look up:
Exact Approximate 

• What does FUBAR stand for? It's somewhere in the Acronym dictionaries.
• Stop repeating yourself with the Wordsmyth Virtual Thesaurus.

Look up a word - or rather, a work like the one you want, in Wordsmyth:

• Learn about html in the Web Developer's Virtual Library
• Make a simple home page for yourself using the Web Home Page Maker.
