Genesis Reversible Lures Techniques

A Striped Bass, also known as Rockfish, and Linesider, and found all along the Atlantic shoreline, will guide your cursor on this page!

The Genesis Reversible Lure features two actions and therefore requires two techniques. Although one technique will be adequate for either action, using the techniques described below for each action will increase your chances to catch more fish. Fishing a surface lure is an exciting adventure in fishing. The fisherman can watch the lure as it is retrieved and often observes the splashes of fish as they attack the lure. It is important for the fisherman to slow or stop the retrieve of the lure after a near miss as often the fish will attack it again or another fish will make a run at it.

How the Genesis Reversible Lure Works

Fishing the Genesis Reversible Lure as a Popper. To fish the popper effectively cast the lure to the selected spot. As the fish hits the water make two or three good tugs on the lure making it splash around. Then start the retrieve. The initial splash imitates a fish exploding into baitfish and attracts the initial attention of your target species. Continue to retrieve the lure slowly. There are several cadences that can be used when retrieving a popper. The most common is simply; crank, crank, twitch. The reel is cranked slowly two full turns and then the rod tip is jerked to make the lure jump forward in the water. The rod is held at a 45 degree angle to the plug. The twitch allows the concave head to "pop" as it goes through the water and make a splash similar to that of a feeding fish among a school of bait fish. This cadence can be altered to whatever style you want or whatever style the situation requires. Remember to always retrieve slow and it doesn't hurt to stop the retrieve every few sequences. Stopping the plug in such a way has been known to trigger an attack.

Another popular method of retrieval involves the same cadence but instead of jerking the tip the rod tip is lifted in a firm and steady motion causing the lure to skim along the surface spitting water for a few feet or more. These two popping techniques are just a few of the many ways to use the popper action of the Genesis Reversible Lures.

Fishing the Genesis Reversible Lure as a Spook or Darter.. To fish the Genesis Reversible Lure as a spook the fisherman removes the plug from the snap swivel. Then the patented pin is removed and then re-inserted through the red concave head of the lure. Re-attach the lure. It will now act as a spook. The lure is cast out but the cadence of the retrieve is now reversed to twitch, crank, crank. With the rod held horizontal to the ground the lure is twitched then followed by two cranks. The shape of the lure produces a swimming -darting action of the surface. This is not as easy to see as the popping action but now the lures imitates a fish on the surface darting around looking for prey. It the retrieve is fast the action resembles feeding. If the retrieval is slow the fish may appear to be injured or disoriented. This is exactly what predators look for and the results are fantastic.

Three final thoughts; though you should retrieve the lure as slowly as possible when fishing striped bass especially at night, don't be afraid to alter the speeds. Bluefish will go after fast moving prey as will striped bass if the timing is right. Second when retrieving the lure continue right up to where you are standing wherever that may be. A fish following a lure will strike right at the end when the lure is just about to be pulled from the water. Lastly, watch your lure at all times. As it gets closer to you look in the water around it to see if anything is following it. This will allow you to slow or stop the retreive and literally place the lure right into the fishes mouth.

The above techniques are but a few of the many ways Genesis Reversible Lures can be used. Do what is comfortable and most important, do whatever works. In fishing there are no rules except to catch fish. Good luck!
