Genesis Reversible Lures A Brief History
A Striped Bass, also known as Rockfish, and Linesider, and found all along the Atlantic shoreline, will guide your cursor on this page!
Genesis Reversible Lures Company had its origins in the first love of its owner, fishing for that unique species of fish; the striped bass. It is a division of Striped Bass Enterprises, the parent company which also features web design and development for small businesses and fine art.
The owner, Don Jalbert, is a trained artist who paints in the tradition of the American Impressionists. His works have hung in several prominent galleries and a few have found their way onto the walls of some significant collections most notably that of Compaq Computers Corporation. Though not as prolific as earlier in his career his art has evolved with the times to find its way onto the internet where his graphic and web design skills have helped in the development of many web sites including The Plum Island Surfcasters and The Southern New Hampshire Dressage Combined Training Association.
Don's first love is fishing. Although he will fish for any species, the striped bass is his primary target.
Genesis Reversible Lures was born in September 2005. The striped bass were in their fall feeding mode yet few of his lures were bringing him the success he desired. His first efforts were small simple poppers designed to match the size of the river herring that the voracious bass were decimating. The poppers worked but after awhile the bass would stop hitting them forcing a switch to a different lure. Fishing on the rocks of the New Hampshire shoreline forced lure selections to be primarily surface type lures. Often during the changing from a popper to a spook or vice versa the action would move away. Inspired by an account written in the Hal Lyman Frank Woolner book; Striped bass Fishing where fishermen changed the orientation of the lure by switching the the hook from one end to the other. Thus was born the world's first truly reversible lure.
The Genesis Reversible Lure was designed to act as two plugs. One half was designed as a popper, the other half pointed like a spook. The action of the plug depends upon which way it is towed through the water. Using the patented pin attachment method the lure can be towed in either direction based on the position of the pin. The prototypes were in the water before the last blitzes of 2005 and the results were impressive. Changing the action took seconds and more fish were caught with Genesis reversible Lures than with any other lure.
During the winter the body design and the attachment system were perfected. Expert woodworker Lou Zabohonski began turning the lure bodies in December. The production model was field tested in May with astounding results. Seventeen stripers were caught in the span of one hour, all using one lure though two different actions. Nine were caught with the lure in the popper mode, the first a 28 inch keeper. Eight fish were caught when the lure was switched to fish like a spook. These lures are now being made available to striped bass nation!
Catch and Release
Another key feature of the Genesis Reversible Lure involves the practice of catch and release. Anglers who practice catch and release sometimes find themselves in a predicament when a striper has engulfed a lure tail first and the hook has found its way deep in the throat or gills of the fish. One problem is that the angler usually cannot get pliers around the body of the lure in order to remove the hook. As a result the angler must cut the line and watch their prize lure swim away with the released fish. The Genesis Reversible Lure changes all that in two ways. First, the lure body can be removed from the patented pin allowing better access to remove the hook. Second, The hook is attached with a duo-lock snap and therefore the hook can be detached from the lure and the pin if the hook cannot be removed and must remain in the fish. This feature allows greater success and greater chances of survival for released fish and saves money. These features are unique to Genesis Reversible Lures.
Genesis Reversible lures are hand made, hand painted, and hand decorated one at a time. The lure bodies are turned out by expert woodworker Lou Zabohonski, without whom there would be no Genesis Lure Company! Check out Lou's excellent work on his website www.turnzwood2.com.
Give a Genesis Reversible lure a try, you won't be disappointed. You get two actions in one lure. You won't find a better deal anywhere else.
