FROM THE PASTOR’S STUDY
Could Life Become Any Busier?
John: “Come on Jesus, we’re late for that meeting!”
Jesus: “Meeting shmeeting, I’ve had enough of meetings!”
Peter: “But the folks are expecting you … there’s some healing needed!”
Jesus: “You fix’em up! I’ve taught you well enough. By now you should know
the drill … ‘Believe, have Faith Enough, Pray, Wait Upon the Lord, Pay
Attention, Practice Patience!’”
Andrew: “Come on Lord … the Time Clock’s ticking … you don’t show up, they’ll think the World is Ending.
Jesus: Not my department, decision, or druther. I’m just tired of being busy all
the Time. Harvest Season is just so demanding; I’ve got crops to bring in, prayers to answer, harvests of diverse sorts to winnow and sift. Don’t you
get it? I’m just out of patience! I’m sitting right here till … till … till …
till I can find my own Sabbath healing. How ‘bout you try on a bit of patience?
Mary: Come on boys. Settle down now. ‘Patience’ that’s just the word I’ve been thinking of. Goes in right here on my Cross-word Puzzle. Hey Lads, you just leave Jesus alone for a spell. He gets tired too, you know. Give him a bit of space. Rest awhile. Try on some patience; while you’re waiting about for SomeOneElse to solve your problems … give some prayerful thought to ‘keeping patient.’
The Patience of Ordinary Things by Pat Schneider
It is a kind of love, is it not?
How the cup holds the tea,
How the chair stands sturdy and foursquare,
How the floor receives the bottoms of shoes
Or toes. How soles of fee know
Where they’re supposed to be.
I’ve been thinking about the patience
Of ordinary things, how clothes
Wait respectfully in closets
And soap dries quietly in the dish,
And towels drink the wet
From the skin of the back.
And the lovely repetition of stairs.
And what is more generous than a window?

Jesus: “Ahh … thanks Mary! Blessing be upon you! That’s really beautiful. That’ll keep ‘em thinking for a spell. And … Mary … thanks for staying patient
with this patient. I’ve been waiting for a few changes too, you know. But I do believe in God’s promises … so I’ll just wait at my own speed … and I’ll be being patiently active about it.”

Prayer is when you talk to God; meditation is when you listen to God.
