Cabrido, Ray In '82 Avionics threw my butt out for lack of intellectual motivation.
Crash Crew gave Hope to knuckleheads like me.
If anyone is ever in Vegas look me up.
Ray Cabrido, Swing Shift Supervisor
Security Department, NYNY Hotel-Casino
Cadrette, Marvin Rome, New York
Born 1939
Rank PFC.
I was in The Marine Corps From 27. Nov,1956 Thurs, 27 Nov, 1959
My MOS. was 6461 Aircraft Crash fire and Rescue. during my tenure there were several Crashes. two that were fatal. I can still recall those events like it was yesterday, I was young and had first hand experience at what a Crash was like was like after helping Doc Bono put a pilot in a black bag,, It was tough sleeping for a few nights but Then when I would think of the ones that are still around because we were there, It tends to even things out some, I am now a Grand father of seven now and I know that there must be a lot of Navy & Marine flyers that are also Grand Parents because of The tremendous effort put fourth by the Crash Fire and Rescue.I can still recall the time when I was on a hand line working my way to the plane when someone dragged a hand line behind me and broke the foam blanket leaving me in the middle of a reflash, I then heard some yelling out by the rest of the crew "Don't turn around" " Don't turn around!!! Than I felt the from hit me in the back, It sure felt heavy as that stinky shit cascaded down on me from that turret, then I heard our Crew Chief Shout out to me
walk backwards!! walk backwards!! Cadrette!! "very" careful !' Then when I thought it was safe to get out of there and didn't see any flames, I quickly realized why I wasn't supposed to turn around, a surge of foam hit my face shield and I couldn't see shit after that but I was in the safe zone and a little wiser for the next time we went
To a crash sight. Oh! The brother that Dragged the hand line through the Foam felt real Bad about the situation. But I felt more sorry for Him After Ol' Gunny Sgt. Clemets finished Chewing his ass out more than a Drill instructor, I think that young Pvt got more heat from the Gunny then I did in that reflash. Gunny was real tuff if one of us messed up he would make us pull running guard on the fire Trucks all night. Needless to say we only pulled one tour of his guard duty.
Gunny lived and breathed Crash Crew and he was always honing us.
if he walked up to you and asked you a technical question like how many points on a certain Air Craft Sling or how many galons of foam
your truck put out per minute you had better darn well know it.
sometimes on walking by the office I would see The old Sarg in there laughing and Joking with some of the guys that worked in the office, I would think to myself Hmmmm? that ol' bastard can smile after all,, As the years go by I know why he was so tough He looked at us like we were teenagers in his Marine Core and didn't want to see us get killed or maimed, He was an old WW II Vet with ribbins up the ass. and hash marks that were only inches away from his rockers I can go on all night with this but in closing I'll say keep up the great work on this web site It's whats needed

Whew! Didn't realize I've been around that long. I'm looking
forward to meeting you and seeing old friends at Beaufort this
summer. Till then.
I'm presently the OIC of the MCAS Iwakuni, Japan Crash Crew. In
July I'll be heading to Headquarters, Marine Corps for my last
assignment as the CFR Guru. I'll miss the troops and the action
on and off the airfield. Crash Fire Rescue was the best career
move I could have made. When it's all over and done with I can
honestly say, "been there, done that"! Semper Fi.
Greetings, I've moved from MCAS Iwakuni to the Pentagon, better
known as the five-sided wind tunnel. Any and all crashcrewmen,
past and present, let me know if I can be of service.
