Thanks John for the idea, personnally I think that it is a great one. "Ike"
Raymond B. Sadler, Sgt, USMC. Knew him while we were stationed at MCAF
Quantico CFR. He was electrocuted in an accident in Korea, died at a
burn center in Texas, 1982 or 1983. Buried in the National Cemetery in
Arlington, VA. A sly, steady, easygoing, but hard-working NCO, trusted
and reliable. A hell of a ping-pong player, too. He was a "go-to" guy
- when you absolutely had to have something done right, regardless, he
was one to go to. Semper Fi, jlawson@surfsouth.com
Ike,
I'm a former 7051 who is listed in your directory. I just got together
online with someone I served with who found me on your website. I want to
tell you thanks for the great website and keep up the good work. Also had
an idea. For your honor roll page. I remember a plaque on the wall at
Memphis (Millington ARFF School) that was dedicated to a couple of 7051's
who were killed while fighting a fire on a crashed F-4 when a missile on it
exploded. I don't remember any more about it like where or when it
happened, but I think the plaque said where & when (Vietnam Era maybe?). I
remember I asked about it at the time, but there wasn't anyone on staff at
the school who knew anything about it, other than what the plaque said. I
know the old ARFF school at Memphis is closed now, so who knows what
happened to the wall decorations, but if you could find any info on it, it
would make a great addition to the honor roll page. As far as I know, these
were probably the only 7051's killed in the line of duty, fighting fire.
I'd be interested in what you find out, if anything. Some of the real old
timers listed on the directory might remember something.
All for now,
